An introductory training designed to help first-year students engage LGBTQ+ issues and refugee protections with stronger legal grounding and community awareness.

Held on June 24 and 25, 2024 with Nature Network, Refugee Coalition of East Africa, and Joyful Hope Resource Platform Centre, this training focused on refugee rights, protection gaps, and the realities faced in Kakuma Camp.

A deeper legal conversation held on March 18, 2024 with refugee-led partners, designed to equip students to discuss LGBTQ+ refugee justice with greater rigor and care.

Across two days in October 2023, students heard directly from advocates and refugees on orientation, gender identity, the Kenyan legal framework, hate crimes, and the everyday experience of displacement.

In partnership with NGLHRC and Defenders Coalition, this November 7, 2022 session introduced students to the legal, social, and humanitarian realities shaping LGBTQ+ refugee protection.

We participated in the Siasa Ya ID initiative in Nakuru, encouraging young people to register for national IDs as a key step toward civic participation and voting. The engagement supported youth empowerment and reinforced the importance of access, representation, and inclusion in democratic processes.

We were an implementing partner in the convening on Protection and Inclusion of LGBTQIA+ Persons in Humanitarian Programming in Kenya, leading discussion on legal, sexual and reproductive health, and digital safety.

In partnership with MKU Parklands Law Campus and refugee organizations, we facilitated a public engagement forum connecting legal education with the lived realities of queer refugees and broader calls for inclusive practice.
